The End

In 1827 he led a sporadic social life and was often bleak. He composed, among other things, the fateful song cycle Die Winterreise.

In the summer of 1828, his condition worsened. He moved to the countryside outside of Vienna to his brother Ferdinand’s home, but the moist air further aggravated the health. After a while he became somewhat healthier, but November 11 he was bedridden.

November 17, he worked from his sickbed, on his proof of Die Winterreise when he suddenly became dizzy and lost his mind. Two days later, on the afternoon of November 19, 1828 Franz Schubert died.
